A Teachers words: Motivation a perfect key for self knowledge and self development.

Gargi Singh Chauhan & Jigisha Shastri — Maharaja Syajirao University, Baroda.

In Sri Aurobindo’s view, teachers are portrayed as the backbone of education. Amongst the four principles of true teaching of Sri Aurobindo, the first principle emphasizes on the change in the attitude of teachers. The very first step for attitude change as suggested by the Mother is to evoke the human from within. The present paper is webbed around the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo “to strengthen ones inner self for self development”. The paper reports the proceedings of a workshop conducted with a group of preschool and primary teachers of Aga Khan School at Sidhpur, Gujarat. It aimed at enhancing self-knowledge of the participant group, in order to attain a higher level of self consciousness, thus leading to overall self development. The seven-day workshop focused on linkages between the vital, mental, and psychic components of our personality. The paper details the exercises carried out as part of the process, and impact of the workshop on the teachers.
