how is it that
\nbirds don’t get blown away in the wind?
\ndid they teach planes how to fly?
\nare they friends,
\nbirds and planes?
\ndo cows like being here?
\ndo statues never move,
\nnot even at night?
\nwill they stay still
\neven when rocks begin to move?
\nwill the wind sit inside a bus
\nand buy a ticket to somewhere?
\nwill a rock?
\nwill some clouds
\nexclude other clouds
\nwhen they meet the stars
\non a secret night
\nin a secret corner
\nin the dark?
\nand what do elephants think
\nof elephant statues?
\ncan you look out of the window
\nand see no forms?
\njust colours changing
\nfrom one to another,
\nformless changing colour.
\na lady in the bus
\nseems territorial
\nof her children
\nand her bag
\nand some men seem lost.
\nthe bus seems tired.
\nit is complaining today
\nabout having to carry along
\nso many smells at one time
\nwithout mixing them up-
\ncoconut oil, flowers, sweat,
\ndid they buy a ticket too?
\nthere is a bridge
\nwith water on either side.
\nit greets the bus uninterestedly.
\ntoo many times has it grumbled along.
\nthe thing about grumbling buses is,
\nthey lose their novelty
\nfaster than non-grumbling buses.
\nthe water is busy
\nconvincing the sun
\nto make love to it.
\nthe trees are waiting
\nfor the buildings to collapse
\nso that they can be
\nthe tallest again.
\nthe trees will win
\nbecause they are green,
\nand green means tall
\nand tall means green.
\nif i could steal
\nall the round bellies
\nof all the fat men
\nalong the way
\nand chop them up
\nto make some warm belly soup,
\nno plants, no animals
\nwould have to die.
\nand then also
\nthere would be
\nno round bellies to feed.
\nbut then..
\nshould we be eating round bellies?
\nhow would they feel?<\/p>\n
